Description
HALF BURIED, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, US. The alpha male bison leading the pack to cross the snow plain in the frigid morning. Yellowstone is the only place in the United States where American Bison (Bison bison) have lived continuously since prehistoric times. Yellowstone bison are exceptional because they comprise the nation’s largest bison population on public land. The American bison also commonly known as the American buffalo or simply buffalo, is a North American species of bison that once roamed the grasslands of North America in massive herds. They became nearly extinct by a combination of commercial hunting and slaughter in the 19th century and introduction of bovine diseases from domestic cattle, and have made a recent resurgence largely restricted to a few national parks and reserves.
The photo won 1st HONORABLE MENTION in Wildlife category for 2018 - 8th Annual National Park Photo Contest. And published at 1x.com.
